Veneer is a thin layer of actual hardwood. Only the finest logs are used to produce it. Depending on the cutting process, very little wood is wasted by the saw blade thickness, known as the saw kerf. Accordingly, the yield of a rare grain pattern or wood type is increased manyfold. The main benefit of veneer pieces is that they offer the look and feel of wood without the expense.
